Working with an independent editor can help give you a leg up in the publishing world, whether you are a novice writer looking to get your first book published, or an established author wanting to take your writing career to the next level. The members of the Creative Literary Alliance can help you with:
  • A detailed evaluation or critique of your manuscript
  • Idea development
  • Substantive editing, rewriting, and polishing of any written material
  • Book collaboration, co-authoring, and ghostwriting
  • Coaching throughout the writing process
  • Project management, from conception through production
  • Guidance and advice on self-publishing
  • Assistance in developing query letters, book synopses and book proposals
  • Guidance in developing a platform and marketing strategies
  • Referrals to other publishing services, including guidance in finding literary agents
  • Advice on all aspects of the publishing process
  • We won’t take a “cookie cutter” approach. Every author and every manuscript is different. We tailor our editing to suit you and your book.
  • To begin, we may ask for a short sample of your writing when deciding if we can successfully work together.
  • We will provide references from previous clients, if requested.
  • We will be happy to edit a short excerpt of your manuscript at our regular rates, if you want to see how we work before making a commitment.
  • We will listen to you! We’ll consult with you about your writing goals, and support you in attaining them, wherever you may be in the writing process.
  • We will develop a schedule with you that is best for you and your manuscript. For instance, we may send you our edits one chapter at a time, giving you a few weeks to respond before moving ahead. Or, we may complete the entire manuscript before giving you our revisions.
  • We will work out an estimated date of completion with you. Often manuscripts go back and forth through a number of drafts, so sticking to a timetable is a cooperative venture. We will always keep you posted on our progress.
  • We will give you honest feedback. If your manuscript is not ready for publication, we will tell you exactly how it can be improved. (No editor, of course, can guarantee publication.)
  • We will respect your personal writing style, not impose our own style on your work.
  • We will be there when you need us, via email or telephone.

The Algonquin Hotel, where literary lights Dorothy Parker, Robert Benchley, Alexander Woollcott, Edna Ferber and others famously lunched at the Roundtable, still stands. The group met daily for ten years exchanging ideas, opinions and cutting witticisms, hence the group’s name for itself – the Vicious Circle.

The members of the Creative Literary Alliance also offer:
  • Writing and ghostwriting of feature articles and essays for print and Web publishers, for authors seeking to build their platforms, and for businesses that want to increase their visibility
  • Copywriting for any promotional material – such as advertisements, brochures, book jackets, catalogs, and press releases
  • Newsletter development, content editing and production
  • Development of Web content
  • Editing for new and established websites
